Great House Getaways of the West

From €460

This package offers immerses guests in the history and elegance of one of the Great Houses of the West of Ireland. The legacy of Ireland's Great Houses is deeply intertwined with the country's history, culture, and social structure. These grand estates, often built between the 17th and 19th centuries, were the homes of the Anglo-Irish aristocracy and served as symbols of wealth, power, and influence. Many of these houses were designed by renowned architects and featured elaborate designs, including Georgian and Palladian styles, showcasing classical proportions, symmetry, and intricate interiors. The estates often included vast lands and served as centers of economic activity and social life in their regions.

Prominent architects like Richard Castles and James Gandon were instrumental in shaping the architectural landscape of these estates. The houses themselves reflected the stature and prominence of their owners, often hosting grand events and serving as political and cultural hubs. Over time, many of these estates fell into decline due to economic changes, but they remain important cultural landmarks, representing a bygone era of aristocracy and grand living. Today, many are preserved as museums, hotels, or heritage sites, offering a glimpse into Ireland's past.

Our "Great Houses of the West" Holiday experience includes guided tours of two historic houses, allowing guests to delve into the rich heritage of the region. Each tour varies, with different houses visited based on availability. The image on our website showcases some of the houses featured throughout the GHGOW Holidays, but not all of them will be visited during a single trip. The photograph is meant to offer a glimpse of what guests might experience, rather than a guarantee of visiting all the locations depicted.
